An award-winning collaboration between the Anaheim Ducks and Vans that helped introduce the Ducks to skate culture through authentic, story-driven content.
The Challenge
How do you bring together two iconic Southern California brands without making the collaboration feel forced?
The Anaheim Ducks wanted to authentically connect with skate culture through a limited-edition Vans collaboration, introducing a new side of the brand while staying true to both identities.
The Approach
Our goal wasn't just to promote a shoe release. It was to create something that felt like it belonged within skate culture. From early teaser films to the launch commercial, we leaned into Vans' authentic, "off the wall" identity while showcasing the Ducks through a lens not yet seen in their marketing. The campaign became one of the organization's first major steps toward evolving its brand beyond hockey.
My Role
I collaborated with the Ducks' Creative Director throughout the concept phase before directing, shooting, and editing two teaser trailers and the flagship campaign film, shot entirely at Vans headquarters alongside Steve Van Doren. I also edited the campaign case study that went on to earn both a Stanley Award and a Clio Award for sports marketing.
Deliverables
2 Teaser Trailers · Campaign Commercial · Campaign Case Study Film
Creative Takeaway
As someone who's been wearing Vans since I was a kid, this project was personally meaningful. More importantly, it reinforced something I believe as a creative: the strongest brand collaborations don't just combine logos. They bring together communities. Seeing the limited-edition collection sell out and the campaign recognized with industry awards made it an especially rewarding experience.
